About Nalsar

The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), established in 1998 by a statute of the State of Andhra Pradesh, has been a hub for critical discussions on law and justice since its inception. Recognizing that issues of justice permeate all areas of legal practice—whether in courts, corporations, education, or administration, the University has championed the use of law as a tool for social change. NALSAR has been at the forefront of advocacy for land rights, disability empowerment, and against moral policing and hate speech. Committed to fostering an ethical legal culture that upholds and promotes the rule of law, the University approaches its social justice mission with a blend of seriousness and optimism, believing that the pursuit of a just society is a continuous, yet hopeful, endeavor.

NALSAR, counted among the top law schools in India, attracts students from across the country and faculty from both India and abroad. While proud of its standing, the University does not let rankings define its identity. A culture of humor and self-reflection thrives on campus, where students and administration alike are unafraid to laugh at themselves and each other. In line with its liberal philosophy, NALSAR offers legal education in an interdisciplinary manner, integrating law with social sciences, humanities, and management studies in its curriculum. The University maintains that teaching, when paired with both theoretical and empirical research, becomes truly dynamic. This belief has led to a strong interconnection between teaching and research within its academic programs. Throughout its existence, NALSAR has consistently explored innovative strategies to foster a vibrant academic environment, continually reflecting on its successes and challenges in pursuit of its goals.
